Polar B3 Heart Rate Monitor

Heart Rate Monitor Review 1: “This was a gift after I had a heart attack just after my 43rd birthday. I use it daily at the gym and while I walk at home. It is an indispensible tool for me. Even after all this time, it remains working well.

Two items about it: First, I did not send it to the factory for battery replacement because it was out of warranty already. I paid $4.95 at the local battery store and they guaranteed it's waterproofness and continued accuracy for another 24 months.

Second, the elastic on the heart monitor is now deteriorating [after 3 years of daily sweat and rinsing, I can't imagine why ;)]. I cannot find "replacement parts" from Polar for this. They suggested I buy a new unit at $49.95 + tax, shipping and handling. So I have procured the services of a local seamstress to attach the "latches" to some new elastic.”

Excellent product. Well worth the price. It is literally a life-saver.

Heart Rate Monitor Review 2: “I first learned about this heart monitor at my gym and had to have one. The manufacturer sells it for twice the price Amazon sells it for. Great price and a neat heart monitor. If you own a high end treadmill or elliptical they will pick up the heart rate from the Polar B3 and display it for you. Super.”

Heart Rate Monitor Review 3: “The system works fine. The problem comes when you have to change batteries. Not just a matter of switching, the watch has to be sent to the company. This so called service has a double price. An abnormal high fee for a simple battery change and you don't have a watch for two weeks.” Heart Rate Monitor Review - Polar S120 Heart Rate Monitor Watch

Heart Rate Monitor Review 1:“This monitor has the basics along with some advanced features. I like having the alarms when I go out of my set training zone. The logic for the set up of the different screens takes some getting used to; just keep using it and it will make sense. I had one workout where the heart rate skyrocketed and didn't read quite right, otherwise it has worked perfectly. I use it for biking and running. The only reason I didn't go for the 150 is because I already have a bike computer that I like.”

Heart Rate Monitor Review 2: “After trying many heart rate monitors, I decided the S120 provided the best array of features for my needs. I also considered strongly the S150, however, I don't have as much information available instantly (speed, distance, time, heart rate, etc.) as I do with the S120 and my CatEye Cyclocomputer.

The S120 lets me target my heart zone and helps keep it within my training range for the day. Also, when I am done with my exercise set, I get a report on date, length of exercise, average heart rate and maximum heart rate.

Unfortunately, the S120 has been discontinued. I haven't found any in the current lineup that come close to providing the features I find most useful.

One warning I'd like to share is that when the batteries need replacement, send them to the factory service center, I think there are three in the US. I bought one on ebay that was used and after a swim, I noticed the crystal fogged up. I sent the unit to Polar for service and the PC board on the unit was destroyed because the battery was replaced incorrectly.

Yes, Polar battery replacement is pricey, but it is certainly less expensive than replacing the whole unit, as I will do now. And yes, I am going to buy another S120, my third one in all.”

Heart Rate Monitor Review - Mio Shape Select Petite Heart Rate Watch

Heart Rate Monitor Review 1: “This is a great watch/heart rate monitor. It has all the features of a watch and it is really cute! I love the calorie counter! I especially love it when I worked out really well and I have a calorie deficit...so I can eat more! It has really helped me in ensuring that my workouts are efficient. I definitely recommend this product. The only thing I didn't like is that the logos on the watch are nearly faded on mine and I only had it for 3 months.”

Heart Rate Monitor Review 2: “I discovered the Mio Shape Select HRM after looking at the Polar HRM's endorsed by my gym. The Polar looked cool, until I started really reading product specs and learned about the transmitter strap you have to wear on your chest. I had just about decided not to bother with an HRM if I was going to have to deal with a strap. Then I found the MIO products on Amazon.

The watch (the Shape Select Petite) is kind of bulky, but it does accurately read my heart rate. The advanced calorie functions are nice too, and not too difficult to use after you learn what buttons to push. However, I think that I will probably just be using this for workouts only since this watch is a little too sporty looking to go with business clothes. I do think I could have gotten away with one of the less-expensive models for the purpose of workout info only. Nonetheless, I do like this watch and am glad I bought this instead of spending even more money on a watch that requires the transmitter strap, etc. I would recommend this or perhaps the Mio Sport Select which is slightly cheaper and has a more bare-bones feature set to people who are new to working out and want to monitor their heart rate and calorie expenditures more closely.”

Heart Rate Monitor Review 3: “I've only had the watch for a day now, but setting up the watch (inputting time, date, weight, resting bmp, etc.) was really easy with their step-by-step instructions. The watch also worked very well on my initial test -- an evening interval run/walk. The only thing I didn't expect was how large the fact of the watch would be. Somehow I thought Petite applied to the watch itself, not just the band. So it's a bit large to use as a ordinary watch for time-telling. But overall, I'm very satisfied with the watch and I look forward to using it regularly.”
